Questions
How do you tell if an image is AI generated?+
We read the labels stored in the file: C2PA Content Credentials (used by OpenAI, Adobe, Google, Microsoft and others), the IPTC 'trained algorithmic media' tag, and generator settings that tools like Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI save into PNGs. We also note whether camera details are present and which editing software is named.
Can it tell which AI tool made the file?+
Often, yes. When the file names its generator, we show it in plain words: ChatGPT and DALL·E, Adobe Firefly, Google Gemini and Imagen, Microsoft Designer, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI, Leonardo, Ideogram, Flux, Runway, Sora, Veo, Kling, Pika and more. The name comes from the file's own labels.
Does it work on videos?+
Yes, MP4 and MOV. We read Content Credentials stored in the video, Apple and QuickTime tags, and the encoder and software names, all without uploading the video or loading the whole file into memory.
If no label is found, is the image real?+
Not necessarily. Labels are often lost when an image is screenshotted, re-saved or posted to social media. A missing label means the file makes no claim either way.
Can you detect Google SynthID?+
Not yet. SynthID is hidden in the pixels and can only be read by Google's own SynthID Detector. We link to it from the results.
Is it free?+
Yes. The AI Detector is free with no daily limit.
