Remove metadata from a Word document
Drop a .docx to see the author and company names stored in it, then download a copy without them.
Free to start · No card needed · Files never leave your device
Why not use Word's Document Inspector?
Document Inspector only exists in Word for Windows, it's easy to miss options, and it doesn't touch revision IDs or invisible characters. This tool works from any browser, shows you everything first and handles all of it in one go.
Before you send a contract or CV
Clean it first. Comments meant for a colleague, a previous client's name in the author field or an old version in tracked changes can all travel with the file.

Questions
What hidden information is in a Word document?+
Word saves the author's name, the name of whoever last edited it, the company, the template path (which often contains your computer user name), total editing time, revision IDs added on every save, comments with reviewer names, and tracked changes including text that was deleted but is still in the file.
Will the cleaned file still open in Word?+
Yes. Only the metadata parts and markers are removed. The text, formatting, images, tables and styles stay as they were, and the file opens in Word, Google Docs, Pages and LibreOffice.
What does accepting tracked changes do?+
Insertions become normal text and deletions are removed for good, the same as clicking Accept All Changes in Word. Leave it off if you still need to review the changes. Their author names are replaced with "Author" either way.
Does it work with old .doc files?+
No, only .docx. Open the .doc in Word and choose File, Save As, Word Document (.docx), then clean that copy.
Are my files uploaded?+
No. The tool runs inside your browser tab and reads the file from your device. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, which is also why it works quickly on big files.
Is it free?+
Yes. Free covers 5 files a day up to 30 MB each, one at a time. Pro is $7 a month and removes the daily limit and the size cap, and lets you drop in whole batches.
